San Mateo-based cloud data warehouse specialist Snowflake Computing has appointed Guy Baldwin as its new Asia-Pacific and Japan director of alliances and channels.

Based in Sydney, Baldwin will support the growth of the firm’s alliance and channel focus across the region. Baldwin brings some two decades of alliance and sales experience in the IT industry.  He was previously director, Global Alliances at MapR Data Technologies, where he led the recruitment and development of global and specialist consulting firms, systems integrators, and technology and cloud service providers.

Prior to MapR, he was director of Global Alliances and Channels at Pivotal Software where he managed strategic partnerships with leading systems integrators. Baldwin also developed MapR’s regional programs for independent software vendors and value-added resellers. He also previously worked at VMware’s Cloud Application Division in several senior alliance channel and sales management positions.

“Partners play a critical role in supporting our mission to help organisations to easily store, integrate analyse and share varying data types in the cloud,” said Snowflake APAC sales VP Peter O’Connor. “Guy will help the regional Snowflake team address the surge in demand for our data-warehouse-as-a-service across the APJ region by enabling partners to provide customers with a holistic data analytics platform as well as complementary and industry-leading products and services.”

Snowflake said it will bring its Cloud Analytics World Tour to Australia for the first time next month with stops in Sydney on 9 May and in Melbourne on 10 May. ‘Each half-day event will bring together the brightest minds to discuss the latest trends, best practices and lessons learned in data warehousing and data analytics,” it added.
