Optus unveils SMB-focused innovation hub in Sydney

Optus has launched a dedicated workspace within the Sydney Startup Hub, dubbed the Optus Innovation Hub,  which will see the telco’s small to medium business division work with startups to address some of the existing and potential issues they face.

Key issues that Optus hopes to look at include how SMBs can use digitalisation for growth, maintain a work-life balance, and help boost customer numbers.

According to Optus head of SMB Matt Ball, the Innovation Hub will provide a crucial opportunity to solve and explore some typical challenges and opportunities faced by SMBs.

iui“Small businesses are critically important to Optus, and, as they account for almost half of employment in the private non-financial sector, to the Australian economy.  We want to help them improve their own customer relationships, growth and success,” he told Telecom Times.

The Optus Innovation Hub will operate as an extension of the Optus SMB Yes Business platform, currently used by some 32,000 SMBs.

The workspace will also serve as a meeting place for startups and SMBs, and host regular events including hackathons, innovation challenges, and masterclasses.

The first Innovation Challenge will launch on July 9 in partnership with Macquarie University to uncover ways to help SMBs grow digitally in terms of digital currencies, through to cross-border expansion and digital marketing.
