NetEvents names Innovation Awards finalists for cloud /datacenter, IoT and cybersecurity

San Jose, CA, USA. 24 September 2019:  Finalists have been announced for the prestigious NetEvents Innovation Awards 2019 – Cloud/Datacenter, IoT & CyberSecurity.

There are six categories: covering both start-up and established companies in three fields: Cloud/Datacenter, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cybersecurity. The awards will be presented at a prestigious gala dinner on Thursday 3rd October 2019 at the NetEvents Global IT Summit in California, USA. All award entry fees are being donated to three charities: Prostate Cancer Research, STEM and UNICEF. To date these awards have generated over $110,000 for charity.

For each of the Hot Start Up award categories, two finalists have been announced to go “head to head” as follows:

·       IoT: Everactive and SWIM.AI

These Hot Start-up finalists will give a short elevator-pitch presentation in true ‘Shark Tank’ style to a judging panel of tech industry Venture Capitalists, and in front of the Summit’s entire audience of international press and analysts, representing 35+ countries, plus tech and business industry leaders.

For each of the Innovation Leader award categories, three finalists have been announced as follows:

·       CyberSecurity: Cylus, Darktrace and Guardicore

·       Cloud/Datacentre: Apstra, Luminance Technologies and Mellanox

·       IoT: Darktrace, Marlabs Inc and SmartSens Technology

The three Innovation Leader categories will be judged by a panel of leading technology press and industry analysts from around the globe.

DOCOMO joins 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation

TOKYO, Sept 2, 2019 – (JCN Newswire) – NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today that it has joined the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) with the aim of further advancing the use of 5G technology in the manufacturing sector.

NEC to use new ‘Smart Connectivity’ brand to speed up services business

Los Angeles, February 12, 2019 – MEF is pleased to announce that the Call for Proposals for the sixth annual MEF 3.0 Proof of Concept (PoC) Showcase is now open. The MEF 3.0 PoC Showcase is the core of the MEF19 global networking event, held November 18-22, 2019 at the JW Marriott LA LIVE in Los Angeles, California. This year’s MEF 3.0 PoC Showcase will feature up to 20 live demonstrations by many of the world’s most renowned communications service providers and technology vendors.

Participation will be limited to a maximum of 20 demonstration teams, with each team having a minimum of three participating companies – service providers, technology vendors, and/or service orchestration solutions providers.

Huawei unveils ‘industry’s highest-performance ARM-based CPU’

Huawei has announced the industry’s highest-performance Advanced RISC Machine (ARM)-based CPU. Called Kunpeng 920, the new CPU is designed to boost the development of computing in big data, distributed storage, and ARM native application scenarios. Huawei will join with industry players to advance the ARM industry and foster an open, collaborative, and win-win ecosystem, taking computing performance to new heights.

The industry’s highest-performance ARM-based CPU

Kunpeng 920 is the industry’s highest-performance ARM-based server CPU. Using the cutting-edge 7nm process, the CPU was independently designed by Huawei based on ARMv8 architecture license. It significantly improves processor performance by optimizing branch prediction algorithms, increasing the number of OP units, and improving the memory subsystem architecture. At typical frequency, the SPECint Benchmark of the Kunpeng 920 CPU scores over 930, which is 25% higher than the industry benchmark. At the same time, power efficiency is 30% better than that offered by industry counterparts. Kunpeng 920 provides much higher computing performance for data centers while slashing power consumption.

Kunpeng 920 integrates 64 cores at a frequency of 2.6 GHz. This chipset integrates 8-channel DDR4, and memory bandwidth exceeds incumbent offerings by 46%. System integration is also increased significantly through the two 100G RoCE ports. Kunpeng 920 supports PCIe Gen4 and CCIX interfaces, and provides 640 Gbps total bandwidth. In addition, the single-slot speed is twice that of the incumbent offering, effectively improving the performance of storage and various accelerators.

Huawei TaiShan, ARM-based server with the industry’s best performance

Huawei today also released its TaiShan series servers powered by Kunpeng 920, including three models: one with a focus on storage, another on high-density, and a third focused on balancing both requirements. The TaiShan servers are built for big data, distributed storage, and ARM native application scenarios. The ARM architecture is best suited for these scenarios with advantages in many-core and performance per watt. 

TaiShan will enable computing platforms with high performance and low power consumption for enterprises. For example, in big data scenarios, the TaiShan servers are tuned for optimal many-core high concurrency and resource scheduling to deliver a 20% computing performance boost. Based on the TaiShan servers, Huawei Cloud also provides elastic cloud services, bare metal services, and cloud phone services. 

Building an open and collaborative ARM ecosystem founded on shared success

Huawei continuously promotes industry cooperation in terms of hardware, basic software, and applications. Huawei has been working with industry organizations such as Green Computing Consortium (GCC), Linaro, and Open Edge and HPC Initiative (OEHI) to build an open, collaborative industry ecosystem, alongside partners such as Hortonworks, Microsoft, Red Hat, SAP, SUSE, Ubuntu, and China Standard Software.
