OPPO unveils new 4G, 5G Reno range devices for Australia

Shenzhen-based smartphone manufacturer OPPO has introduced in the Australian market its latest range, the Reno series, featuring the company’s first 5G handset. This series is set to be the most expensive effort by OPPO to-date, with recommended retail prices coming in at A$1,499 and A$1,199 for the 5G and 4G respectively.

In a brazen, yet utterly hospitable act of pirate PR, a captive and increasingly relaxed audience heard the firm’s Australia MD Michael Tran say that while 5G had been a hot topic for some time, “the wait is over, 5G is here.”

“Reno is transforming what is possible with a smartphone, whilst at the same time making innovation accessible to all,” Tran said. “We’ve introduced state-of-the-art camera tech, game-changing processing power and an audio-visual experience second to none. What’s more, with our Reno 5G variant, customers can be at the forefront of a new era of smartphone connectivity available through our carrier partners.”

Like OPPO’s other smartphone devices, the most notable feature of the Reno series – available as a 5G or 4G variant – is the camera. Both phones feature a concealed front-facing camera that takes 0.8 seconds to pop-up or lower and a 10x hybrid zoom tri-lens rear camera, including a 48MP primary lens, a 13MP periscope telephoto lens, and an 8MP wide angle lens.

For videos, both handsets can record at 4K 60fps and include audio zoom, 3D audio capture and hybrid stabilisation.

Both variants have a 6.6-inch OLED display with a 93.1 percent screen-to-body ratio and a light-sensitive, under-the- screen fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood, the Reno range comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 processor, 8GB+256GB storage, and a 4,065mAh battery. Both the 4G and 5G models also come equipped with the new VOOC 3.0 fast-charging technology, which allows low-voltage fast charging while gaming or streaming video, without emitting excess heat.

OPPO’s Renos series will be available for pre-order immediately through Telstra and JB Hi-Fi, and will be on-sale from 11 June.

Customers who pre-order will receive a free set of Bose QuietComfort 35 headphones (valued at $499), or purchases made after the on-sale date will receive a free set of Bose SoundSport Free Wireless earphones (valued at $299).
