Sunnyvale-based Mellanox Technologies, a primary supplier of high-performance, end-to-end interconnect services for data center servers and storage systems, has unveiled it has shipped more than 2.1 million Ethernet adapters during the first nine months of 2018.

Mellanox CEO Eyal Waldman

“We are in the early stages of a multi-year transition to faster Ethernet speeds, which is driving increased demand for our solutions,” said Mellanox Technologies CEO and president Eyal Waldman.

We are gaining market share with shipments to multiple tier-one end user, hyperscale, enterprise data center, OEM, telecom, and federal customers,” he added. “We believe the growth of data is the cause of this transition and will translate into significant additional growth in 2019 and beyond.

The firm classed the milestone as significant, noting it signals that high-performance Ethernet technology (25G and faster) has moved beyond the Super 7 cloud and web titans. “The adoption of high-performance Ethernet technology has spread to enterprise data centers globally, including the next wave of cloud, telco/service providers, financial services and more,” it said.

Mellanox said it is benefiting from this transition and gaining market share as a key supplier of high-performance Ethernet adapters at 25, 50, and 100 Gb/s with 69% revenue share of the merchant market according to the latest available Crehan Research Report.

This market leadership, the firm said, was driven by the hardware accelerators and broad software support of its ConnectX range of Ethernet adapters.

“The ConnectX family acts as an infrastructure coprocessor that integrates hardware acceleration engines that offload application data transport, storage, security, and network processing from server CPUs,” added Mellanox. “This frees valuable compute resources to run mission critical workloads including big data analytics, artificial intelligence, enterprise, software defined networking.”
