Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES has unveiled a new service to provide onsite LTE connectivity along with dedicated Wifi hotspots to broadcasters and event organizers – regardless of the event location.

The new service is a result of the cooperation between MX1, a global media services provider and subsidiary of SES, and Munich-based video distribution specialist Smart Mobile Labs.

It combines M1’s OU Flex’s 150 Mbit/sec of bandwidth supplied by SES’ satellite fleet and SML’s5G-ready LTE/WiFi hotspot offering, enabling HD and UHD content to be distributed to a specialized mobile application aimed at event spectators and audiences.

SML based its 5G-ready offering on its core technology, dubbed Edge Video Orchestrator (EVO), to allow the switching of real-time low latency video streams while extending OU Flex connectivity on-location to deliver video, audio, and data streams through a local mobile network.

OU Flex launched in March and has since been used for a variety of applications. With the mobile applications, end users will now be able to enjoy focused views of an event displayed in a split screen mode and provided by a network to mobile cameras. OU Flex also allows users to superimpose sponsor information, graphic elements, or social media conversations to deliver a total real-time event immersion.
