Uniti Wireless bags A$5m in SA gov’t funding to take on rival NBN Co

Adelaide-based firm Uniti Wireless, which bills itself as a high speed broadband alternative to the NBN, has been awarded a A$5 million grant from South Australia’s Future Jobs Fund.

It will us the funds to drive employment opportunities across engineering, software development, customer support, sales and marketing as the company looks to double its workforce and accelerate national growth.

The company - which currently delivers fixed wireless services across Melbourne and Adelaide - plans to expand its network into metropolitan Perth, Sydney and Brisbane before the end of the year.

Operating independently to the NBN and ADSL, Uniti’s ‘fibre through the air’ service offers a mix of fixed wireless technology and fibre backhaul, to provide super fast broadband of up to 100Mbps to homes and businesses.

“South Australia has an amazing entrepreneurial spirit and is leading the way in terms technology and innovation,” said Uniti’s chief administrative officer Ali Foster.

“We are pleased the Government is backing us financially and can see the importance of providing an alternative to the NBN to solve a key problem that is holding back Australia’s productivity and growth: universal access to reliable and super fast broadband.”

Foster said Uniti was proud to be an Adelaide-based company, soon to be doing business on a national scale. “We have more than 65 people currently working for us and are committed to building a strong local workforce. Our aim is to create more than 200 new jobs and pump millions into the state economy over the next few years,” she added.
