The Board of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association has elected Telstra’s Executive Director of Regulatory Affairs Jane van Beelen to the role of Chair.
The regulator said Van Beelen – an AMTA director since 2015 – takes over from outgoing Chair Stuart MacIntyre.
“It is an honour to become the Chair of AMTA at such an important moment for our industry, as we stand of the cusp of 5G and the Internet of Things becoming a reality in Australia,” commented Van Beelen. “I look forward to continuing AMTA’s important work in advocating for the policies and regulatory settings that have helped Australia to become a world leader in mobile technologies.
“Mobile connectivity has changed the way we all work and live. It underpins the Australian economy and generates tens of billions of dollars in value every year. AMTA has a critical role to play in ensuring the conditions exist for the continued growth and success of the Australian mobiles industry,” she said.
“Australia is consistently rated amongst the best countries in the world for access to high quality mobile services. From being the first country to deploy gigabit capable LTE, to the fact we have one of the largest Internet of Things mobile footprints in the world, to our world firsts on 5G, Australia is at the cutting edge of mobile technology and I look forward to working closely with industry, policy makers, regulators and the community to ensure we continue Australia’s leadership position,” Van Beelen said.
“I also want to acknowledge the strong contribution of outgoing Chair, Stuart MacIntyre who has led AMTA’s Board from 2016. Stuart has guided AMTA with skill and enthusiasm through an important formative period as our industry prepares for the fifth generation of mobile technology. On behalf of the Board and members, I thank Stuart very much and wish him the very best,” added Van Beelen.
