NEXTDC has flagged that its S1 Sydney data centre has established two new Google Cloud Interconnects, allowing customers to connect to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) from anywhere in Australia.
“NEXTDC continues to experience strong demand for our premium data centre services across a national footprint, demonstrated by our intention to purchase three new commercial property sites for future data centre developments: Sydney (“S3”), Melbourne (“M3”), and Perth (“P2”),” NEXTDC CEO Craig Scroggie told Telecom Times, adding that the national trend for uptake in Australia appeared to be comparable to other geographies such as APAC and beyond, given the global growth of cloud computing, AI, IOT and hyper converged infrastructure.
“These new Melbourne and Sydney sites are the largest ever to be built in Australia, which will take our overall capacity to 300MW,” he added.
Extending customer networks into Google Cloud
Partner Interconnect service is a new product in Google Cloud’s Interconnect offerings. It allows customers to extend their data centre network into their Google Cloud projects via NEXTDC and their ecosystem of 450+ carriers and service providers.
Delivered via NEXTDC’s Ethernet connectivity platform AXON, customers can scale their bandwidth requirements from 50Mbps – 10Gbps from all of NEXTDC’s data centres across Australia as well as an additional 18 AXON locations nationwide.
“Partner Interconnect gives our customers more choice of connectivity to Google Cloud Platform and offers our partners greater diversity when building hybrid cloud offerings for their customers,” said Google Australia Country Manager Colin Timm.
“Together with NEXTDC, we are making it easier for our partners and their customers to extend their on-premise infrastructure to Google Cloud Platform”.
Australia’s new Dedicated Interconnect location
Also going live at S1 is a new Google Cloud Dedicated Interconnect service, one of just two locations in the country. Released last September, Google Cloud Dedicated Interconnect enables higher-speed and lower cost connectivity than VPN.
Customers can connect to Google Cloud Platform through the Dedicated Interconnect location at S1 via a physical cross connect.
