Hawaiki cable lands in Tafuna, American Samoa

Hawaiki Cable Limited, the Auckland-based company working on the construction of the  Transpacific Cable System, has signalled the successful landing of the cable in Tafuna, American Samoa.

“This is another great milestone and a fantastic achievement for the team,” said Hawaiki Cable CEO Rémi Galasso. “Hawaiki will provide American Samoa with 200Gbps of international bandwidth that will be accessible through the brand new FTTH network of ASTCA and its soon coming 4G LTE mobile network.”

The firm said the Hawaiki Transpacific Cable System will link Australia and New Zealand to Hawaii and mainland United States, “which will help eliminate the distance between all Pacific communities and boost socio-economic development through the provision of broadband access. ”

It added that, with a design capacity of 43 Tbps, the Hawaiki cable – slated for completion in June – will be the highest cross-sectional capacity link between Australia, New Zealand and the US.

The Oregon to Hawaii segment has been completed, with the international segment between Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii underway since early November 2017.
