SAP opens Australia’s first Next-Gen Lab at Victoria University

Victoria University has teamed up with enterprise software specialist SAP to launch Australia’s first SAP Next-Gen Lab, a facility aimed at forging vital connections between students and industry, as well as building the digital skills to solve 21st Century business problems.

Located in the centre of Melbourne at VU’s City Flinders Campus, the SAP Next-Gen Lab is a relaxed space designed to encourage collaboration and innovation, and where VU’s Master of Business students can draw on SAP’s capabilities and the latest tech.

“I could not think of a more appropriate institution with which we launch our first Next-Gen Lab here in Australia,” said SAP ANZ Head of Digital Business Services Bruce McKinnon.  “What excites me most about Victoria University is its mission to be a great university of the 21st Century, underpinned by personalised, flexible and industry relevant learning opportunities.”

“By opening new channels for Victoria University’s students to share and collaborate with other thought leaders in academia and industry, this partnership provides the opportunity for them to harness the technologies and innovation driving the digital transformation of industries today,” McKinnon said.

SAP Leonardo – SAP’s digital innovation portfolio of the latest technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, Blockchain and Big Data – will underpin the work carried out by the students in the Next-Gen Lab.

Following similar initatives at universities across China, the UK, Germany and the US, the VU Lab will:

  • Connect companies recruiting next-generation leaders with students and graduates who have specific digital-transformation knowledge and skills
  • Showcase startups with corporations seeking to seed disruptive innovation
  • Enable students to work on SAP Next-Gen projects with industry partners, including SAP customers

“This is yet another opportunity to build on our ongoing partnership for the benefit of our students,” said Professor Colin Clark, Dean, College of Business, Victoria University. “VU graduates will have unique skills and industry connections that will make them stand out to business and technology providers.”
